Charles Grant Cross born 8 December 1920 in Luxello, Bexar County, Texas to Mildred Bell Archer(b.1902 Ohio-d. ) Age 18 and Julius Ward Cross(b.1894 Dripping Springs, Texas-d.1931 Brady, McCulloch County, Texas) Age 26.
1930 census Age 9 living with his father (divorced), a brother Julius Jr. in the home of his grandparents Cross in Brady, McCulloch County, Texas. Charles, at age 10, lost his father, Julius died in 1931. 1935 living in Rural, Callahan, Texas. Enlisted in the US Marines on 4 May 1939 at Dallas, Texas and listed his uncle, Mr. James F. Cross, Box 744, Brady, Texas, as his next of kin contact. 1940 census Age 19 living at Marine Base, Second Marine Brigade F M F, San Diego, California.
Gunnery Sergeant Charles G. Cross 271607 US Marine Corps Company E 4th Marines Regiment. Served in China. Captured by the Japs in the Philippines in May 1942. Survived 3-1/2 years in Jap POW camps, to be liberated in Japan in August 1945. He married Beulah M. Bridges in 1946 and he died in Oceanside, California on 19 February 1975.
