I have removed PFC J. W. Jones from Brown County's original Honor Roll simply because we have not found any evidence that he had connection to Brown County. His hometown Tallapoosa, Ga. He is not listed as a casualty on the Brown County list, but he is listed on the original WWII memorial at Coggin Park, Brownwood, Texas.
J. W. Jones born 31 Jul 1924 in Alabama to Maud M unknown (b.1893 Alabama - d. 1978 Fulton, Georgia) and William Earnest Jones (b. 1893 Georgia - d. 1974 Haralson, Georgia).
1930 Census Jackson County Alabama age 5 living with parents two brothers and two sisters. 1935 living R Paulding County Georgia. 1940 Census Haralson County Georgia age 15 living with parents and two brothers. [nba].
US Navy casualty listing: JONES, J W, 334739, HqCo, 3rdBn, 1stMar, 1stMarDiv, FMF, Palau Is, September 15, 1944, killed in action (mc) + JONES, J. W., Pfc., USMC. Parents, Mr. and Mrs. William E. Jones, 34 East Mill St., Tallapoosa, Ga (na)
I believe the 1946 source made the error of listing him on the original WWII memorial at Coggin Park, instead of James G. Jones.
