Paul Lee Mata born on 20 August 1970 at Muscatine, Muscatine County, Iowa to Laura Mata and Armando Sedillo Mata Sr. (b.30 Jul 1948 Lamesa, Dawson County, Texas - d.14 Feb 2021 Brady, McCulloch County, Texas.) Age 22.

He attended school in Santa Anna, Coleman County, Texas and graduated from Santa Anna High School in 1987 where he was an athlete and star football player. He joined the Marines after graduation in 1988 and trained as a communications specialist. Pfc Mata was assigned to the 3rd Marine Division on Okinawa in May 1989.
